Here Is a Play Fitted
Folger Shakespeare Library

This exhibition highlighted the broad shifts in the production of Shakespeare’s plays over the centuries, using as examples Othello, Richard III, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The curators assembled designs for sets, lights, and costumes, production images, props, models, and other materials in the exhibit to shed light on the motivations behind the sometimes surprising changes made to the texts for performance.

I selected these beautiful watercolor costume-design sketches for Midsummer Night’s Dream to serve as key symbols throughout the show. As was my usual assignment, in addition to producing all of the exhibit labels, wall panels, and other graphics, I designed a guide for visitors to consult while touring the show, and also exterior banners and signage.

Panels mounted high on the wall are always carefully designed to ensure readability at a distance.
